Overview

This website does not set cookies and does not store any information on your device. There are no user accounts, no contact forms and no newsletter. I do not store any personal data of visitors myself.

Each time a page is requested, technically necessary data is processed by the hosting provider. Details on this and the other services follow below.

Hosting and delivery by Cloudflare

This website is delivered via Cloudflare: Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you request a page, Cloudflare processes technically necessary data, in particular your IP address, date and time, the requested address, browser and device information, and the previously visited page. This is required to deliver the site and protect it against attacks.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest is the secure and fast provision of the website. A data processing agreement is in place with Cloudflare. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, so transfers to the USA are covered by an adequacy decision of the European Commission.

More information: Cloudflare privacy policy.

Determining the right Amazon store

So that the buy buttons lead to the Amazon store for your country, your browser asks Cloudflare which country the request comes from when the page loads (/cdn-cgi/trace). The country is derived from your IP address and used only in your browser to choose the links. It is not stored and not sent to me.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest is showing you the right store.

Audience measurement with Cloudflare Web Analytics

I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how the website is used. No cookies are set and no information is stored on or read from your device. Aggregated data is collected, such as pages viewed, the previously visited page, browser, device type, country and load times. According to Cloudflare, no profiles of individual visitors are created.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest is improving the website. The provider is Cloudflare, Inc. (see above).

Counting clicks on the buy buttons and to the book page

When you click a buy button, the link first passes through an address on this website (/go/…) and then goes straight to Amazon. I count the click on the way. Only the day, the page and position of the button, the edition, the Amazon store, the format and the country of the request are stored. Your IP address is not stored, no cookies are set and no profiles are created. The data cannot be linked to you as a person.

I also count clicks on links within this website that lead to the book’s page. A small script reports the click to this website. Only the day, the page you clicked on, the type and position of the link, the target page and the country of the request are stored. Here too, no IP address, cookies or other identifiers are stored, and no profiles are created.

I also count how often each page is viewed. Only the day, the page, its language and the country of the request are stored, again without IP address, cookies or identifiers.

The notes about the book in the articles, in the header and in the bar at the bottom change. So that the most helpful ones appear more often, I also count which note was shown in which position. The same data as above is stored, without IP address, cookies or identifiers.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest is understanding which pages lead to purchases of the book. The data is held by Cloudflare, Inc. (see above).

Fonts

The fonts are served by this website itself. No connection to third-party servers is made.

The buy buttons lead to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Links to amazon.de contain an associate ID for this purpose.

As long as you do not click one of these links, no data is transferred to Amazon. After the click, Amazon’s privacy policy applies. Amazon may set cookies there to track that the purchase came through my link. More information: Amazon privacy notice.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure and restriction of processing of your data, to data portability, and to object to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. To exercise these rights, contact the email address above.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The competent authority is the Saxon Data Protection and Transparency Commissioner (Sächsische Datenschutz- und Transparenzbeauftragte).
